BUDAPEST, May 6 (Xinhua) -- "Hungarian wines have won three Grand Gold medals at the prestigious Monde Selection contest in Brussels," the Hungarian government announced here in a statement published on its official website.

Of the seven Grand Gold prizes, three were handed over to Hungarian wines, and the remaining four were shared by wineries from four countries, namely Portugal, Romania, Sweden and Argentina.

"The results prove that Hungarian wines are among the best in the world and are achieving worldwide recognition and success," the statement underlined. "Varga Pinceszet (Varga Winery) gained the top title with two wines, while the Pannon Tokaj Co. gained a prize for its noble sweet wine," the statement added.

The Monde Selection' competition has been running since 1961. Over the last 58 years, Monde Selection has been evaluating, testing and awarding a large number of consumer products with its unique quality label.

Every year, 70 international experts taste and test products from all over the world in a completely independent way.

The International Wine Contest of Monde Selection is recognized by the European Union and takes place in Brussels.
