KIEV, May 6 (Xinhua) -- At least three tourists from Belarus were killed and nine others injured on Monday in a road accident in a mountainous area in Ukraine's western Ivano-Frankivsk region, local authorities said.
The accident occurred at about 11:30 a.m. local time (GMT 0830), when a truck carrying 24 people slipped off the road and plunged some 40 meters down into a river, the regional department of the National Police said on Facebook.
According to police, a 29-year-old man and two women aged 23 and 28 were killed as a result of the crash, nine people were hospitalized, while the rest escaped the accident without major injuries.
According to the preliminary data, the driver lost control of the vehicle as he was drunk. Further investigation is underway.
