Myanmar president leaves for visit to Vietnam

YANGON, May 10 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar President U Win Myint left for Hanoi on Friday for a working visit to Vietnam and the 16th United Nations Day of Vesak Celebration, according to the President's Office.

At the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Phu Trong, U Win Myint is making the trip to join the international event to be held in northern Vietnam's Ha Nam province.

Myanmar and Vietnam have been cooperating in the sectors of culture, economy, trade and education.

Bilateral trade between Myanmar and Vietnam reached 196 million U.S. dollars in the first quarter of the present fiscal year 2018-2019, which began in October, according to the figures from the Commerce Ministry.

During the three-month period, the country's export to Vietnam hit 48.5 million U.S. dollars while its import stood at 147.7 million U.S. dollars.

Bilateral trade in the last fiscal year 2017-18 totaled over 714.8 million U.S. dollars.
