Campaign comes to end ahead of 6th phase of India's general elections

NEW DELHI, May 10 (Xinhua) -- Election campaign for the sixth phase of the ongoing parliamentary polls in India came to an end on Friday evening in Delhi and neighboring state Haryana.

According to the provisions of the Election Commission of India, the election campaign in an area going to poll ends 48 hours prior to the hour fixed for the conclusion of the poll.

A total of 59 parliamentary constituencies go to polls on Sunday, spread across these seven states. Polling of votes will take place in these areas from 07:00 hours till 17:00 local time on Sunday.

While Delhi has a total seven parliamentary constituencies, its neighboring state Haryana has 10 constituencies.

Besides, eight parliamentary constituencies in Bihar, four in Jharkhand, eight in Madhya Pradesh, 14 in Uttar Pradesh, and eight in West Bengal will also witness polling on May 12. Some of the constituencies in these five states have witnessed polling in the past five phases too, while the remaining constituencies in some of these states will witness polling during the last phase of polling on May 19.

Election results of all the 543 parliamentary constituencies in the lower house Lok Sabha will be announced on May 23.
