BELGRADE, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Under the slogan "It's Time for New Technologies", the annual international exhibition of technical achievements, which opened in Belgrade on Tuesday, encourages Serbian companies to implement smart factory solutions, digital automation and technologies that will make them more competitive in the global market.
The 63rd International Fair of Technics and Technical Achievements in Belgrade surfacing some 20,000 square meters is a place where visitors will get to see high-tech cutters and other manufacturing machines, 3D-scanners, robotic elements, as well as computer-integrated factory solutions.
More than 600 exhibitors from all over the world are partaking in the event, presenting their products, including some of the technologies and innovations developed by Serbian inventors and students.
Nenad Popovic, minister without portfolio in charge of innovation and technological development, said in his keynote speech at the opening of the fair that the country is continually making efforts to strengthen innovation capacities of small and medium sized companies in the field of manufacturing and to turn them into the "spine of its economy".
"Robotics and flexible production automation are widely used across Europe because they are essential for competitiveness, but this technology is still not entirely available to small and medium companies. On one hand this is a major problem, but also it is a challenge for our young engineers engaged in innovations and new technologies, and for the whole Serbia," he said.
In future years, government will work on the development of the "robotization program for medium and small companies" so that it can find a sustainable solution for this problem and make them globally competitive.
Two Chinese companies are here to present their technology and their controllers and machine tools.
Among the exhibitors are also companies from Egypt, France, Germany, Britain, Italy, Japan, Russia, South Korea, United States and other countries.
Business meetings and exchange that will take place here at the fair in the next four days are aimed to result in the implementation of innovations in Serbia's and regional industry.
