MEXICO CITY, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Mexico is hungry for investment and optimistic investment environment, the Mexican president's chief of staff Alfonso Romo said on Tuesday.

"Mexico is capital-hungry, it does not have the capital to face the challenges that are presented to us," the official said at a forum on private capital.

Mexico's development was halted by corruption, Romo said, calling for a sense of optimism and certainty among domestic and foreign investors.

"Why have not we advanced faster? Because we inherited a problem of corruption and recklessness..." Romo said.

He also called on all Mexicans to "speak positively," because Mexico needs to create an "optimistic environment."

Although international organizations have very low growth expectations for Mexico, the government is confident that the growth rate will exceed 2 percent, Romo added.
