GHAZNI, Afghanistan, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Two police officers and an assailant were killed and 15 people wounded after a car bomb blast near an army camp in Afghanistan's eastern province of Ghazni on Wednesday, a local official confirmed.
"The explosion occurred roughly at 01:50 p.m. local time along a main road on outskirts of provincial capital Ghazni city," spokesman Harif Noori told Xinhua.
"A militant driving a car bomb tried to enter Ghazni city but security forces intercepted the car. The vehicle exploded after security forces fired on it, leaving the casualties," Ramazan Ali Mohsini, deputy provincial police chief, told Xinhua.
The injured included 10 civilians and five police officers, he said.
Rescue teams, police and security forces rushed to the site and shifted the wounded to the hospitals.
Witnesses said the militant used a hijacked armored military vehicle in the attack.
The blast is the latest in a string of bombings that have targeted dozens of military and security compounds across the country.
Taliban militant group routinely claims responsibility for attacks.
The Taliban-led insurgency has been rampant since early April when the militant group launched its annual rebel offensive in different places of the country, which had claimed hundreds of lives including militants, security personnel and civilians.
