KAMPALA, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Uganda's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday issued a protest note to Rwanda over the killing of two people on Uganda's territory by Rwandese soldiers.

A ministry statement said Rwandese soldiers crossed into Uganda's territory and killed two people, one Ugandan and another Rwandese.

The incident happened on Friday evening, 50 meters into Uganda's territory at Rukiga district.

The statement said a Rwandese national who was carrying his merchandise attempted to cross into Rwanda. When he saw the Rwandese security officers he retreated back into Uganda.

The Rwandese soldiers pursued him into the Ugandan territory and shot him dead after he resisted arrest. A Ugandan national who tried to intervene was also shot dead before the soldiers crossed back to Rwanda.

"The government of Uganda strongly protests the violation of its territorial integrity by Rwanda soldiers and criminal, brutal and violent act by the Rwandan soldiers on Ugandan territory against unarmed civilians," said the statement.

"The ministry demands that action be taken against the perpetrators of this attack. The government of Rwanda is strongly urged to take appropriate measures to avoid recurrence of such provocative incidents in future," the ministry said.

Uganda and Rwanda have since late February had a border hitch with Rwanda accusing Uganda of harboring its dissidents and also incarcerating its citizens who visit the country. Rwanda urged its citizens not to cross the border into Uganda. Uganda has denied all the accusations made by Rwanda.
