Three parties take lead in European Parliament elections in Lithuania

VILNIUS, May 27 (Xinhua) -- The Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TSLKD) had a clear lead in Sunday's elections for the European Parliament (EP), according to preliminary results announced early Monday by the country's Central Electoral Commission.

The TSLKD garnered 7.91 percent, or 3 of the 11 seats for the country out of 751 at the European Parliament, according to vote counting from 1820 polling stations out of a total 1972.

It was followed by Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP) with 16.69 percent of the vote and Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union (LVZS) with 13.61 percent. The two parties each received two mandates.

Sixteen parties and election committees attended Sunday's election.
