MAIDAN SHAHR, Afghanistan, May 29 (Xinhua) -- A total of 12 militants including a Taliban key commander, Mullah Sadam, were killed in the eastern Wardak province on Wednesday, Interior Ministry spokesman Nasratullah Rahimi said.

Units of police, according to the official, stormed Taliban hideouts in Jalriz district in the early hours of Wednesday, triggering a gun battle that lasted for a while, during which "12 terrorists including their notorious commander Mullah Sadam were killed" and six others sustained injuries.

Commander Sadam, the official said, was involved in subversive activities and his physical elimination could prove to be a major setback to the armed insurgents in Wardak and its vicinity.
