PYONGYANG, June 4 (Xinhua) -- The government of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) recently took new measures to restrict the import of foreign-made tobacco products and to revise the country's Tobacco Control Law, the official media Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) has said.

In a report on Monday, KCNA said that law, which was adopted in 2005, has been amended four times. The government would also issue new rules to ban the release of new brands of cigarettes through new restriction on the "agreement and approval of the production of tobacco products with new names."

It said the government has organized several seminars this year to deal with such tobacco control plans as installation of non-smoking marks and zones, and broadcasting of programs on the prohibition of smoking.

In the DPRK, the nonsmoking campaign has been conducted in accordance with the Tobacco Control Law, "along with intensified hygienic activities to inform smokers of harmfulness of smoking," the report said.

Marking World No Tobacco Day, which was on Monday, information service was given at the hygienic information halls and medical care institutions in Pyongyang and other provinces across the country.
