NEW DELHI, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Heat wave has intensified in several parts of the country, India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials said Thursday.

"Heat wave conditions in many parts with severe heat wave in isolated pockets very likely over Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha; in some parts with severe heat wave in isolated pockets very likely over South Uttar Pradesh and West Rajasthan," a statement issued by Met department said.

"Heat wave to severe heat wave conditions in isolated pockets over East Rajasthan. Heat wave conditions in isolated pockets over Punjab, South Haryana, Marathawada, Telangana and Chhattisgarh," the statement said.

The condition is likely to prevail until Sunday.

According to IMD maximum temperatures were markedly above normal (5.1 degree Celsius or more) at isolated places over Madhya Pradesh.

On Wednesday the highest maximum temperature of 48.0 degree Celsius was recorded at Churu in Rajasthan.

IMD released graphics showing severe heat wave conditions to heat wave conditions prevailing in Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Marathwada until Sunday.
