KIEV, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine topped the list of countries with active drilling rigs in the Baker Hughes European Rig Count, according to the report published by Baker Hughes on Friday.
In May, Baker Hughes, one of the world's largest oil field services companies, for the first time included Ukraine into its International Rig Count. Ukraine represented 84 of the 186 active drilling rigs in Europe. Turkey was recognized as the country with the second largest number of rigs in Europe with 20 active drilling rigs.
"Including Ukraine into the Baker Hughes international rig count is extremely important, as it demonstrates the recovery of the domestic market and serves as a good indicator of the potential of Ukraine for the leading gas production and service companies," said Roman Opimakh, executive director of the Association of Gas Producers of Ukraine (AGPU), in the press release issued by the association.
Including Ukraine into the International Rig Count done by Baker Hughes was initiated by AGUP, according to the press release.
Ukraine extracted 21 billion cubic meters of gas in 2018 which is 2.4 percent more than during the previous year, according to data of the ministry of energy of Ukraine.
