SARAJEVO, June 10 (Xinhua) -- The Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) have seized over one tonne of tobacco and 700 packs of cigarettes over the weekend, according to a press statement on Monday.

Border Police members seized more than a tonne of tobacco on Saturday in the area around the city of Bijeljina, located 180 kilometers northeast of the capital Sarajevo, said the release.

The tobacco was discovered in the trailer of an abandoned vehicle, and several citizens of BiH are brought forth in connection with the case, the statement added.

On Sunday, Border Police members prevented smuggling of 700 packs of Marlboro brand cigarettes with BiH excise stamps upon exiting BiH at International Border Crossing Point Velika Kladusa, 370 kilometers northwest of Sarajevo.

The cigarettes were discovered during the control of a car of Toyota brand with Slovenian registration plates by using a device that allows an optical view of the difficult accessible interior of the vehicle, the statement said.

After the cigarettes were seized, a report against the 27-year-old driver is submitted to BiH's Prosecutors Office and he is charged with a criminal offense of smuggling.
