DHAKA, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Washington is juggling multiple trade conflicts today, and the price will be paid by American consumers themselves, Bangladeshi Peace Council Secretary General M. A. Quassem has told Xinhua.

Quassem said the Trump administration has initiated a broad assault on the "postwar effort to build economic ties around the world."

"It is expected that when American consumers will realize that they have to bear the brunt of the tariffs, domestic support for President (Donald) Trump will begin to evaporate," he added.

As to the U.S. unilateral tariff measures against its trade partners, the expert said the United States employs trade as an all-purpose tool for its policy goals.

Referring to the trade disputes with China, the expert said one can only hope that the U.S. administration once again shows the vision and wisdom to renew cooperation with China at a time when the two countries face many common challenges including climate change, nuclear threats, terrorism, poverty and volatile financial markets.
