SOFIA, June 11 (Xinhua) -- In recent years, there has been a steady increase in the employment of minors under age 18 in Bulgaria, the country's General Labour Inspectorate Executive Agency (GLIEA) said Tuesday.

According to Bulgarian legislation, employers can hire minors only after GLIEA's nod. In 2018 it has approved the employment of 8,238 persons under 18 years of age, the agency said on its website on the eve of the World Day Against Child Labour.

Among them, 205 were under 16-year old, the agency said.

Most minors were employed in restaurants, hospitality and retail sectors, it said.

The agency has approved the employment of 6,938 persons under 18 years of age in 2017, while in 2016 and 2015 the figure stood at 5,009 and 2,605 respectively.
