WASHINGTON, June 11 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Treasury on Tuesday imposed sanctions on one Syrian businessman, his family members and related entities, citing his ties with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

The blacklisted targets include Samer Foz, his two relatives and 13 associated entities, said the Treasury in a statement.

The Treasury claimed that Foz had been profiting heavily from reconstruction efforts in Syria, including through "luxury developments on land seized by the Syrian regime from its own people." Foz was also accused of directly supporting the Assad government.

"This action reinforces the United States' commitment to imposing a financial toll on those supporting" Assad government, the statement added.

As the result of sanctions, all property and interests in property of those sanctioned targets that were subject to U.S. jurisdiction would be blocked, and U.S. persons were generally prohibited from engaging in transactions with them.
