KABUL, June 12 (Xinhua) -- An Afghan expert and researcher on China's foreign policy has termed China as a good neighbor of Afghanistan and seeks its support to help Afghans succeed during the ongoing peace process and bring about lasting peace and stability to Afghanistan.

China, as a good neighbor of Afghanistan and a country that seeks to build a community of shared future for mankind, can play its due role in helping Afghans find a negotiated settlement and bring about lasting peace to the country, Nazari Pariani told Xinhua recently.

The veteran journalist and well-respected political analyst observed that China could utilize its influence on all the stakeholders in Afghansitan and facilitate the war-weary Afghans to get united to make the peace efforts and national reconciliation successful.

China, as a friend of Afghanistan, can also utilize its influence on its neighbors to join hands to end the war in this country, Pariani, the editor-in-chief of the leading newspaper the Daily Mandegar, said.

The analyst was responding to the ongoing peace efforts by certain countries which encourage both the Afghan government and the Taliban outfit to initiate direct talks and find political solution to the country's protracted conflict.

The U.S. special envoy for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad is currently visiting Afghanistan and meeting Afghan leaders including President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani to brief them on the outcome of his talks with the Taliban as well as with Pakistani leaders.

Ghani underlined the need for holding intra-Afghan dialogue to end the prolonged war in the country.
