ISLAMABAD, June 13 (Xinhua) -- The Pakistani Foreign Ministry said that the country supports the Shanghai Cooperation Organization's (SCO) efforts for regional integration through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) that offers critical overland route for trade and energy to the member states.

Pakistan shares deep-rooted historical and cultural links with the SCO member states and the organization's multi-sectorial cooperation agenda is in line with the Pakistani government's policy of promoting regional peace and stability and seeking enhanced linkages in infrastructure, economic, trade and cultural spheres, according to the ministry late Wednesday.

Pakistan became an SCO member in 2017 and has been actively participating at all levels in various SCO mechanisms including foreign affairs, defense, national security, economy and trade, education and healthcare, science and technology, etc.

The ministry said in a statement that Prime Minister Imran Khan will visit Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan on June 13-14 to attend the upcoming summit of the SCO.

The prime minister will attend the meeting on the invitation of Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov, who would chair the meeting. Leaders of SCO member and observer states as well as representatives of important international organizations will attend the meeting.

Khan, who will make his debut appearance at the SCO, will address two sessions of the meeting, and will have bilateral interaction with other participating leaders on the sidelines of the meeting.
