New party backed by former president registered in Botswana

GABORONE, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Botswana Patriotic Front, a new political party backed by former President Seretse Khama Ian Khama, was officially registered here on Wednesday.

Khama, a founding member of the new party, quit the ruling Botswana Democratic Party in May, citing "deepening differences with the current administration" under President Mokgweetsi Masisi.

The party's structure has not yet been revealed. In an earlier address to party members, which was also aired live on Khama's personal Facebook page, he said they will reveal their manifesto and immediate plans after registering the party.

He also said that they aim to work with the opposition to oust the ruling party in this year's elections.
