8 killed, 12 injured as suicide bombing rocks Jalalabad city in E. Afghanistan

JALALABAD, Afghanistan, June 13 (Xinhua) -- Eight people were confirmed dead and 12 others sustained injuries as a suicide bomber blew himself up in Jalalabad city, capital of eastern Afghanistan's Nangarhar province, on Thursday, provincial government spokesman Attahullah Khogiani said.

"Those killed in the blast include one child, four civilians and three security personnel," Khogiani told reporters.

Twelve more people including three children, six civilians and three security personnel were injured in the blast, the official said, adding that the deadly attack targeted a police van at around 04:30 pm local time also smashed windowpanes of houses nearby.

No group has claimed responsibility.

Taliban and Islamic State outfits that are active in parts of Nangarhar province had claimed responsibility for such deadly terrorist attacks in the past.
