BANGKOK, June 13 (Xinhua) -- Thailand-China cooperation would be beneficial for Thailand and the administration transition would not setback Thailand's development, the head of Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) office has told Xinhua.
"EEC projects are not affected and going forward smoothly. Prayut Chan-o-cha has become Thailand's prime minister again. As a propellent of the projects, he knew the EEC well. The government has reassured investors of policy continuity," said Kanit Sangsubhan, secretary general of Eastern Economic Corridor Office of Thailand, in an interview with Xinhua on Tuesday.
The EEC is the government's flagship investment scheme, spanning the eastern provinces of Chon Buri, Rayong and Chachoengsao.
The government hopes to complete the EEC by 2021 to create a hub of technological manufacturing and services, which is connected to other ASEAN (the Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries by land, sea and air.
In 2018, the National Legislative Assembly passed the EEC Act.
Some investors have doubts about the policy continuity. Kanit said there would be no post-election obstacles. He said the cabinet has approved a development deal for the third phase of Ma Ta Phut port, one of the five mega-projects under the EEC scheme.
He said the EEC is an important initiative to develop Thailand's Eastern seaboard initially and enhance connectivity to neighboring countries.
He also said that the Thai government is trying its best to create a business linkage between China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the EEC scheme.
