ANTANANARIVO, June 15 (Xinhua) -- The Independent National Election Commission (INEC) of Madagascar announced Saturday the provisional results of parliamentary elections of Madagascar.
According to INEC, out of 151 seats at the national assembly, 84 come from the ruling party of Andry Rajoelina, 16 are supported by former president Marc Ravalomanana, 46 are from independents and 5 are from other political parties.
Results were announced by the INEC members led by their president Hery Rakotomanana in a ceremony attended by Madagascar's chiefs of institutions, diplomatic corps and some parliamentary elections candidates at the INEC headquarter.
More than 10 million voters in the 119 districts throughout Madagascar voted among 810 candidates to present their districts for 151 seats at the national assembly.
During his speech, Rakotomanana talked about the importance of the parliament election. He said that elected candidates will play an important role for the respect of democracy in Madagascar.
Provisional results announced by the INEC will be submitted directly to the High Constitutional Court, which has right to announce definitive results within 16 days.
