MUMBAI, Jun 17 (Xinhua) -- Three workers were killed and 20 injured when an under-construction water tank collapsed in India's Southern city of Bengaluru on Monday.

Police as well as fire and emergency service teams rushed to the spot and rescued around 20 labourers while 10 more are suspected to be trapped under debris.

Senior police officials are supervising the rescue operation after fire and emergency service brigade rushed to the spot.

The incident occurred around at noon when about 50 labourers were working inside the tank for the sewage treatment plant, spread over a 30-acre plot, said a local police official.

A team of National Disaster Relief Force has been deployed to search and rescue the trapped workers from the crash spot.

Though the labourers were wearing helmets, they were not equipped with protective body suits, said another official from the disaster cell.

Police filed a case against the contractor for failing to take precautionary and protective measures.
