BUCHAREST, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Romania's coalition government, led by Social Democrat Prime Minister Viorica Dancila, survived a motion of no-confidence in parliament here on Tuesday.

The motion, tabled by most of the opposition parties in parliament, garnered 200 votes in favor, far from the required minimum of 233 votes, or 50 percent plus one in the 465-seat bicameral parliament.

MPs of the two governing parties -- the Social Democratic Party and the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats -- attended the session but did not cast votes.

The censure motion was filed and read last week in the plenary sitting of parliament. It was signed by 173 MPs belonging to the National Liberal Party, the Save Romania Union, the People's Movement Party, the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania and unaffiliated MPs.

Pro Romania Chairman Victor Ponta announced that, although his party's MPs had not signed the motion, they voted for it. Pro Romania was the only opposition party in parliament not to sign the motion.

Prior to the vote, National Liberal Party leader Ludovic Orban had sent a message to the ruling parties' deputies and senators, telling them that they should vote for the censure motion to rehabilitate themselves in front of the Romanian people.

In her response, Prime Minister Dancila said during the debate in parliament that the censure motion contained "mystification of truth" and did not offer constructive ideas that could improve the way the country is governed.

The cabinet, led by Dancila, took office on Jan. 29, 2018 and has already survived two motions of no-confidence on June 27 and Dec. 20.
