SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, June 18 (Xinhua) -- At least seven civilians were wounded Tuesday after militants carried out a grenade attack in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.

The grenade was hurled towards a police station in Pulwama town, about 28 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

Police said the grenade exploded with a bang on the roadside, leaving civilians wounded.

"This evening militants hurled grenade towards a police station here, which exploded on the road outside, leaving at least seven civilians wounded," a police official posted in Pulwama said. "The wounded persons were immediately removed to hospital for treatment."

Soon after the attack, police rushed to the site and launched a manhunt to nab the attackers.

On Monday evening militants triggered an improvised explosive device (IED) targeting an army vehicle in Arihal village. The attack killed two troopers and wounded four soldiers and two civilians.

Earlier during the day, two militants and a trooper were killed in a fierce gunfight in adjacent Anantnag district.

Militant groups opposing New Delhi's rule are engaged in a guerilla war with Indian troops in the region since 1989. Gunfight between the two sides takes place intermittently.
