PARIS, June 19 (Xinhua) -- European aircraft manufacturer giant Airbus on Wednesday said it had won a new order of ten Airbus A321 XLR jets from Australian flag carrier Qantas Airways Limited.

The agreement also includes the conversion of 26 existing A320neo orders to the new long-range model, it added in a press release.

"The aircraft will allow the Qantas Group, which includes low-cost carrier Jetstar, to improve its network and fleet flexibility to better serve point-to-point markets in Australia, Asia and the south Pacific," Airbus said.

Airbus launched its A321 XLR jet at the Paris Air Show. The new jet allows Qantas Airways "to open new world-wide routes such as Australia to China and Japan".

The new model would have a long range of up to 4,700 nautical miles (NM), 15 percent more than the previous A321 LR model, and a 30 percent lower fuel burn per seat compared with previous generation competitor aircraft, it said.
