LUSAKA, June 19 (Xinhua) -- The Zambian government said on Wednesday that it is finalizing a legislation that will allow for the private sector to participate in off-grid solutions through renewable energy.

Minister of Energy Mathew Nkhuwa said the documentation on the new legislation was already with the justice ministry and that government was hopeful that it could be tabled in parliament soon.

The Zambian minister was speaking on the sidelines of an Investment Conference in Ethiopia organized by Renewable Energy for Africa Solutions, according to a release.

Zambia, he added, has an opportunity to demonstrate that generating power by the private sector could be done at low tariffs.

He further revealed that Zambia had invested in renewable energy projects such as solar, wind and hydro and that plans to diversify power generation has advanced.
