ISLAMABAD, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani anti-terrorism forces killed two militants of the Islamic State (IS) near Multan city in Punjab province, officials said Thursday.

The militants were wanted by the law enforcement agencies in various cases of terrorism including the kidnapping of an American national.

The American was kidnapped in Lahore, the capital city of Punjab province, in August 2011 from his residence. He was accidentally killed along with an Italian aid worker in a U.S. drone strike in Pakistan in January 2015.

A spokesman for the Counter-Terrorism Department in Lahore said that security officials foiled a terror plot and killed two terrorists while three others escaped.

The spokesman told the media that the terrorists belonged to IS and they were also involved in several other terrorist activities, kidnapping and killings.
