SARAJEVO, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Norwegian low-cost carrier Air Shuttle launched on Friday a seasonal service connecting Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), with Gothenburg in Sweden, Sarajevo International Airport (SIA) stated in its press release.

Planes will take off from SIA once a week on Tuesday, and return from Gothenburg Landvetter Airport on Friday.

The route will be served by Boeing 737-800 aircraft, the press release added.

This is the fourth Norwegian Air Shuttle route connecting the capital of BiH with destinations in Scandinavia, SIA said, testifying to "successful cooperation" between the carrier and the airport.

In addition to flights to Stockholm in Sweden, Norwegian Air Shuttle also flies from Sarajevo to Oslo in Norway and Copenhagen in Denmark.

The introduction of this route is of great importance for BiH citizens who live and work in Scandinavia, as well as for numerous tourists from this part of the world who want to visit BiH.

Norwegian Air Shuttle operates 500 routes to 150 destinations in the world. It carried over 37 million passengers in 2018.

According to BiH's Civil Aviation Directorate, SIA handled more than one million passengers in 2018.
