MANILA, June 21 (Xinhua) -- At least 90 students of a high school in Batangas province, south of Manila, were taken to hospital on Friday after collapsing due to hot weather, police said.
The local police said the students were inside a crowded gymnasium of the Bauan Technical High School around 10:00 a.m. local time, when they passed out. Health workers said the students suffered from hyperventilation due to overcrowding at the gymnasium.
All students are now in their homes, according to the local police.
It was not clear why the students converged there. The incident prompted the school to cancel the afternoon classes.
The state weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) advised the public to stay indoor and hydrated due to prolonged drought and dry spell.
