CAIRO, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi stressed that his country will continue providing all forms of support to South Sudan and its peace process, the Egyptian presidency said in a statement on Tuesday.
Sisi made the remarks during his meeting with South Sudan's presidential envoy Tut Gatluak, which was attended by a number of senior Egyptian and South Sudanese officials, Egyptian presidential spokesman Bassam Rady said in a statement.
Rady said that Gatluak handed a message to the Egyptian president from his South Sudanese counterpart Salva Kiir on aspects of bilateral relations as well as the latest developments in South Sudan.
Sisi asserted that Egypt will continue enhancing bilateral cooperation with South Sudan and providing technical support to boost development for a better future in the country, according to the Egyptian statement.
"During the meeting, Gatluak explained the latest political developments in South Sudan and praised Egypt's role and the efforts it exerts in support of stability in the region and his country," Rady added.
South Sudan has been suffering from a civil war since December 2013 between forces loyal to Kiir and others of his former Vice President Riek Machar, leaving tens of thousands dead and millions displaced.
