KHARTOUM, June 25 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Special Envoy to Sudan Donald Booth on Tuesday held meetings with representatives from Sudan's Transitional Military Council (TMC) and the opposition Freedom and Change Alliance to push the two parties to resume talks to reach a political settlement, Sudan's Ashorooq net reported.

"The consultations tend to push the two sides to resume direct talks," Booth was quoted in the report as saying.

He added that Sudanese parties are capable of entering the transitional period as soon as possible.

He further noted that the African mediation moved towards reaching a consensus between the two sides.

The TMC is tasked with running the country's affairs after the ousting of former president Omar al-Bashir in April 11.
