ISLAMABAD, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Security forces in Pakistan's southwest Balochistan province foiled a terror bid to attack a police center by killing three assailants on Wednesday, an army statement said.

A policeman was also killed and two others were injured during the fire exchange with the militants in Loralai district of the province, the Inter-Services Public Relations, the military's media wing, said in the statement.

Three suicide bombers attempted to target a police line compound, an academic and residential area of police where an entrance examination of aspirants to join police force was scheduled to be held on Wednesday.

The militants were effectively checked by police at the entry gate and one of them was killed by police guard at entry point while the other two managed to get inside police line, the statement said.

An extra contingent of police and paramilitary troops reached the site to counter the attack and killed one of the militants while the other blew himself up after being cornered by the security personnel.

The compound was cleared by the security forces after a search operation. The injured security personnel were shifted to a nearby hospital.

No group or individual has claimed its association with the attackers yet.
