Bulgaria shuts down illegal cannabis production facility at Danube River port

SOFIA, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Bulgarian authorities in the Danube River port of Lom have shut down an illegal cannabis production facility and arrested one suspect, the Interior Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

The facility, which was located in a two-storey house, was furnished with devices for ventilation, lighting, heating, humidity control and irrigation, three cannabis grinders and three electronic scales, the statement said.

The authorities also seized 28 glass jars with a total of 29.97 kg of dry cannabis, 37 polyethylene bags with seeds of different varieties of cannabis, as well as pesticides, fertilizers and soil acidity regulators, it said.

They found also a revolver with erased serial number, and 163 cartridges of different calibers, the statement said.

The occupant of the house, a 26-year-old man with a criminal record, was arrested.

The investigation is under way.
