ALGIERS, June 27 (Xinhua) -- Algeria on Thursday condemned twin suicide bombings that targeted security sites in the Tunisian capital of Tunis, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum held a phone call with his Tunisian counterpart Khemaies Jhinaoui, as he extended condolences of Algeria to all Tunisian brotherly people, the statement said.

Boukadoum expressed his country's condemnation to the bombing attacks and reiterated its support to Tunisia against the plague of terrorism, said the statement.

Boukadoum assured that Tunisia will defeat terrorism and foil its "sordid plans," thanks to the unity of its people and the strength of its institutions, added the source.

Downtown Tunis was rocked by twin suicide attacks earlier on Thursday, as a man blew himself up against a police checkpoint; 10 minutes later, another man also committed suicide attack against a counterterrorism unit.

The two attacks claimed the life of a police officer and injured several others.
