NAIROBI, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Kenya rugby team could skip the World Junior Championship debut in Brazil from July 9-21 for lack of adequate funds, head coach Paul Odera said on Monday.

The team faces a huge budgetary deficit of 20 million Kenyan shillings (200,000 U.S. dollars).

"Our hopes are now with the government because we have been fundraising and still fall short of the target. The government must come in to help us, we believe that if they will be able to give some money to add on what we have raised and what sponsors have pledged, we will be good to go," said Odera.

It will be the second time that Kenya is taking on the World Junior Trophy Championship with the first one having come back in 2005.

"We did not meet our target to fund the team heading to Brazil hence this might greatly affect the players leaving on international duty," said Odera.

Kenya will be facing Uruguay on July 9 before taking on hosts Brazil on July 14 and wind up their group stage campaign against Japan on July 17.
