ALGIERS, July 1 (Xinhua) -- The Algerian Defense Ministry said on Monday that the army captured a suspected terrorist in the far eastern province of Tebessa near the Tunisian border.
The suspect was captured on Sunday by a detachment of the National People's Army in coordination with the National Gendarmerie as part of the anti-terror fight, a ministry statement said.
He joined the terrorist organization in 2017, the statement added.
The security situation in Algeria has remarkably improved in the last decade, but clashes between security forces and terrorist groups are still reported from time to time.
Located in a region plagued by unprecedented security and political instability, Algeria faces ongoing terrorist threats.
