U.S. embassy in Tunisia closed for security reasons

TUNIS, July 1 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. embassy in Tunis was closed on Monday for security reasons.

"Due to security concerns, the U.S. embassy will be closed to the public on Monday except for emergency services," an embassy statement said Sunday.

The decision was taken a few days after two separate suicide bombing attacks in the heart of the Tunisian capital Tunis, which left a policeman killed and eight others injured.

The Islamic State militant group on Thursday evening claimed responsibility for the two terrorist attacks in Tunis.
