BUDAPEST, July 2 (Xinhua) -- The month of June 2019 has been the hottest month of all times in Hungary, at least since the beginning of statistical record-keeping (1901), according to official sources here on Tuesday.
"This past June was record hot in Hungary," the Hungarian Meteorological Service (OMSZ) informed here in a statement published by Hungarian news agency MTI.
According to OMSZ, June 2019 proved to be the hottest month ever since the beginning of official record-keeping.
"Until now, June 2003 held the record; but this year's average temperature exceeded that by 0.32 degrees," OMSZ said in the statement.
The average temperature of June this year was 22.64 degrees Celsius, 3.6 degrees higher than the June overall average of 19.04 degrees Celsius between 1981 and 2010, OMSZ noted.
According to the OMSZ forecast, the heat wave currently over Hungary will persist until Wednesday, then a cold front arrives bringing showers, reducing the heat by a few degrees.
On Monday, Hungarian authorities issued a heat warning due to the high temperatures and the strength of ultra-violet radiation.
