KHARTOUM, July 2 (Xinhua) -- The African Union envoy to Sudan Mohamed Hacen El Lebatt announced on Tuesday that an agreement is expected to be reached soon between the opposition Freedom and Change Alliance and the Transitional Military Council (TMC).

"The final agreement between the two parties is just around the corner," said Lebatt at a joint press conference with the Ethiopian mediator Mahmud Dirir in the capital Khartoum.

"We call on the two parties to agree on a sovereignty council and a civilian government under chairmanship of a competent personality," he added.

Consultations are continuing between the two parties to overcome differences over the sovereignty council, the AU envoy noted.

The mediation team has invited the two parties to a meeting on Wednesday to discuss the issues of differences, Lebatt said.

The African Union and Ethiopia are mediating between the Sudanese conflicting parties over the proposed mechanisms of a transitional period in Sudan.
