NAIROBI, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Kenya is increasing investments into expanding broadband access in order to bridge digital divide, a senior government official said on Wednesday.

Joe Mucheru, cabinet secretary in the Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology (ICT) told journalists in Nairobi that the government has already laid down over 6,000km of the National Optic Fibre Backbone Infrastructure across the country.

Mucheru added that Kenya is keen to develop a robust ICT infrastructure to attract private sector investments in any part of the country and avail government services online.

"We are doing this because the future of the world will be driven by ICT," the official said.
