JAKARTA, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Hosts Indonesia hope to secure 14 gold medals during the forthcoming 2019 ASEAN School Games later this month, head of the contingent Yayan Rubaeni said here on Wednesday.

The 2019 ASEAN School Games are slated from July 17-25 in Semarang city, Central Java province, according to the Indonesian youth and sport ministry.

Yayan said that the target was set up after the coaches and officials conducted a review over the capabilities and performance of the country's young swimmers.

In addition to that, he said, the achievement of the Indonesian swimmers in the 2018 ASEAN School Games in Malaysia was also taken into consideration.

During the Games in Malaysia, Indonesian swimmers came out on top with a total of 15 gold medals, 17 silver medals and 8 bronze medals, he said.

Indonesia posted the second position after hosts Malaysia by getting 31 gold medals, 36 silver medals and 31 bronze medals.

The event will include nine sports: athletics, badminton, basketball, lawn tennis, table tennis, volleyball, swimming, sepak takraw and Indonesian traditional martial art pencak silat, according to the chairman of the committee Washinton Galingging.
