MANILA, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Local police said on Monday that three people had drowned in the waters off Dumaran, a town in Palawan province of the Philippines.
According to the police, the accident happened around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday when strong waves battered a small boat while traveling the Dumaran Channel.
A 33-year-old mother and her four-year-old son were knocked off the boat, police said. The 64-year-old father of the woman tried to rescue his daughter and grandson but he drowned too.
Rescuers had recovered the bodies of the three victims, police said.
