SARAJEVO, July 8 (Monday) -- One person was confirmed dead and 10 injured after a strong storm accompanied by wind hit the area of Semberija, 180 kilometers in the northeast of the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, local hospital told Xinhua on Monday.

Semberija was hit by strong rain, accompanied by thunderstorm and hailstones as big as walnuts on Sunday evening, which lasted until early Monday morning, local media reported.

"In the last 12 hours, a total of 10 persons arrived in the Bijeljina Health Center with injuries sustained while trying to make repairs on the things damaged during the storm that hit Semberija," said the Center in telephone interview.

A 67-year-old man was killed during roof repair when he slipped and fell. Nine persons who arrived in Bijeljina Health Center had light injuries, while another was severely injured during repair works.

The strong wind uprooted dozens of trees, damaged parked cars, and left several villages without electricity. Roofs were damaged and enormous loss was done to corn plantations and greenhouses.

A state of emergency was declared in Semberija area.

BiH's Federal Hydrometeorological institute (FHMZ) has issued an orange warning on Sunday morning for the area around Semberija near rivers due to expected thunderstorm and occasionally strong winds.
