COLOMBO, July 10 (Xinhua) -- A Sri Lankan opposition political party, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), on Wednesday submitted a no confidence motion against the government in Parliament, stating that the government had failed to prevent the Easter Sunday terror attacks.

Parliament Speaker Karu Jayasuriya said the motion will be debated for two days till Thursday when a vote on the motion will be taken by the 225 legislators.

JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayaka told Parliament that the no confidence motion was submitted against the prime minister, the cabinet of ministers and the government over their failure to take prompt actions to prevent the suicide bombings on April 21 despite the police having prior knowledge of possible attacks.

The terror attacks killed over 250 people and injured over 500 others.

Several political parties including President Maithripala Sirisena's Sri Lanka Freedom Party participated in the first day of debate on Wednesday.

The government, however, remains confident that they will be able to defeat the motion.
