JAKARTA, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia will host the 2019 Cycle Messenger World Championship (CMWC), an international competition for cyclist messengers from August 21 to 26, participated by at least 187 racers from 23 countries and regions, the competition organizer said.

The 27th CMWC event would make Jakarta the first city in Southeast Asia region to host the championship since it was initiated in 1992 in Berlin, Germany.

"Besides the competition, the event would be featured with discussions on related topics in the business and bazaar of related products for cyclist messengers," the competition organizer was quoted as saying by state media outlet Antara on Wednesday.

Participants are expected to rise in the following days as the event draws near, he said, adding that the event would be held in Jakarta International Expo (JIE) premises in downtown the city.

Besides promoting tourism in Jakarta, the event was expected to further promote use of the environmental-friendly messenger service to the public and firms as well.
