LONDON, July 17 (Xinhua) -- The annual consumer prices index (CPI) of inflation in Britain in June was unchanged at 2 percent, with higher prices for clothing and food offset by lower fuel and energy costs, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said Wednesday.

It is the same rate of inflation as in May, and in line with the Bank of England's target.

Data from ONS showed that, the largest offsetting upward contributions came from clothing and food, while the largest downward contributions came from motor fuels, accommodation services and electricity, gas and other fuels.

"The overall rate of inflation remains steady, with no change in pace this month. Petrol and diesel prices fell this year but rose a year ago, while clothes prices dropped by less than this time last year."said Mike Hardie, Head of Inflation at the ONS.
