China's Huang Yuxiang beats defending champion at Indonesia Open

JAKARTA, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese men's singles player Huang Yuxiang defeated defending Indonesia Open badminton champion Kento Momota from Japan here on Thursday, qualifying for quarterfinal berth in this year's tournament.

Despite losing the second game, Huang closed out the match against world no. 1 Momota with scores of 21-16, 11-21 and 21-18 in one hour, 14 minutes.

Speaking after the match, Momota said that he had not played productively during the match.

"But I will avenge [my defeat] should we meet again at the Tokyo Olympics," the Japanese vowed.

Huang's victory was not matched by his top-seeded compatriot Shi Yuqi, who retired hurt in his second round match against Danish contender Anders Antonsen.

Other Chinese players did not have the best of days either, with Lin Dan being defeated by Chinese Taipei's Chou Tien Chen, and Chen Long losing a narrow match against Malaysia's Lee Zii Jia by scores of 21-16, 19-21, 22-20.
