Thousands throng to Bruneian capital to join International Night performances

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Thousands of locals and overseas tourists gathered at Brunei's capital Bandar Seri Begawan to see International Night open-stage performances,in conjunction with the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah's 73rd birthday celebration.

The event kicked off on Saturday night with a welcoming joint dance entitled "Sultan Payung Mahkota," followed by a medley dance from an Indonesian dance troupe. Besides tourists from various countries, also seen were members of the diplomatic corps as guests.

Also on stage were teams from other countries in their respective performances, such as from Myanmar, Bangladesh, Thailand, Pakistan, the Philippines and Malaysia.

The evening ended with a joint grand finale entitled "Joget Ngalai" or Ngalai Dance.

The Sultan's birthday in July is one of the nation's biggest and most colourful festive event, where various activities have been planned lasting for a month.
